Happened to see this online,
Just to share with all my friends.
Her words are so motivating!!!
One of my favourite and respectable coaches
Ms Teo Siew Lan
Sharing her passion in volleyball as an educator and also as a coach.
"Volleyball" is an instrument
which I have been using to build and mould character in my students
to help them grow in their understanding of who they are.
My mission is to surface their talents and help them set directions for themselves.
This sport is my passion and also my mission.
Being a champion in a volleyball competition
is not as important as being a champion in life.
Just as I can use this sport to produce a champion on the court,
I am all the more committed to nurture a champion of life in a person for society.
That is my ultimate purpose for an educator and a volleyball coach.
Being a coach is secondary compared to the role of an educator.
As a teacher, my job is to teach, to give the best I can and I know how.
To me, winning trophies is not everything,
but moulding the hearts and minds of our young charges is paramount.
I have no control over winning a trophy every time we go for a game,
but I can influence as many lives as possible during their stint as school players.
The success of the St Hilda's Secondary School Volleyball Team
is not dependent solely on my effort,
but the combined efforts of many:
the school Principal, staff, parish workers, parents, ex-students
and most importantly, the committed players themselves.
I am grateful to them for their unceasing dedicated effort and support.
